First Broad Street Winter Festival a Success!
On December 6, 2008 from 1pm to 8 pm, about
400 residents from Central Falls, Cumberland and Pawtucket
gathered at Jenks Park on Broad Street to participate in the
First Annual Broad Street Winter Festival. The multicultural
event was conceived out of the Broad Street Regeneration
Initiative and was a Tri-Communities effort, in addition to
Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, Progreso Latino, Colombian
American Cultural Society, Pawtucket Citizens Development
Corporation, Colonial Bakery and Creative Chica Art Gallery.
Seven bands and four dance groups provided
entertainment for the full 7 hours, with music ranging from
bluegrass to Latino pop/rock and performances showcasing
Portuguese and Afro-Latin cultures. The Kids’ Universe provided
endless entertainment for the little ones, with face painting by
the Pawtucket Citizens Development Corporation and a chance to
create their own movie with the help of Pawtucket-based Buddha
Gouda Productions. Santa Clause was around to hand out presents
and listen to Christmas wishes, and The Peace Flag Project
presented an opportunity for people of all ages to articulate
their wishes for a better world through the creation of their
own peace flags.
The Festival was made possible through the
hard work of all our partners and was sponsored by Progreso
Latino, WKKB Latina 100.3 FM, Sovereign Bank, Blackstone Valley
Community Health Care, Quality Rental, Village Pizza, Hot Dog
Haven, Wal-Mart and Stop & Shop. Thank you to all our partners,
sponsors and attendees for making this Festival a huge success!
